Join our growing team! • A note from our Executive Director, Jaelynn Scott
As Lavender Rights Project approaches its fifth year anniversary as an organization, we are moving into a new phase of our work. Our staff and programming is growing, and there are several new positions open. But we need our community’s help to find amazing candidates, and I want to take this opportunity to tell you why our organization is a great place to work.
For starters, our staff is phenomenal. We are a group of majority POC, Black-led, and mostly queer and trans staff working for Black queer and trans liberation. It is not always easy, and of/by/for organizations are typically not set up for success. Identity work is difficult, especially when you work with clients that share the same trauma associated with being marginalized. However, because we are distinctly aware of this, our staff is comprised of the best folks to take on this mission.
We are, at our core, a radical group of people, community members, activists, attorneys, ministers, and artists. Our diverse team brings the best of queer and trans liberation to everything they do. We are constantly working towards radical inclusivity, including regularly taking on in-depth, honest conversations and actions to co-create a workplace that profoundly follows the 10 principles of disability justice. We collaborate as a team on major decisions of the organization, and every single member of our staff brings valuable insight to the choices ahead of us. It is not unusual to have attorneys, activists, and artists tackling a legal problem or working on a collective action together. To put it bluntly, we really believe in the value and power of our staff, both as a whole and as individuals.
We don’t always get it right, but we are relentless in our pursuit of a just, equitable, and fun workplace. Please view our hiring page and tell your colleagues and friends. Spread the word, and let us know if there is someone that we should meet!
