Bringing back the PRIDE to Pride: An Update from the Development Team

by Randy Ford, she/her/Goddess
Major Gifts Associate

Tis the season, community! It’s PRIDE month and we hope that everyone first remembers and honors the Mothers of the movement: Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. And while you all celebrate safely,  we also hope that you keep in the back of your minds how much work still needs to be done! Executive Director Jaelynn Scott said right before the PRIDE Flag was raised at Seattle’s City Hall on June 1st, “With the recent legislative and political attacks on Trans youth, the use of Trans bodies as a wedge issue by politicians, the continued violence against Trans people, ESPECIALLY Black Trans women, I wanna name how important THIS PRIDE, THIS YEAR, 2022, IS… These attacks are intended as strategic disruptions to both LGBTQ and gender justice rights. These rights were hard earned. And we’re not letting them go.”

And she was right! We are not letting go of our autonomy and right to privacy. We are not going to let this country tear us away from our chosen families. We are not going to let white supremacy continue to criminalize our existence and ways of life while exploiting our art, joy, and pain. This year, we are not going to just talk about it—but be about it!

And finally, if you haven’t already, go buy your tickets to our inaugural PRIDE fundraiser on June 22nd: The Black Trans Comedy Showcase! We will be raffling a pair of Alaska Airline Tickets, the newest Xbox, tickets and sideline passes to a Seattle Seahawks PRIDE sponsored football game, chiropractic and wellness coupons, and a amazing chocolate cake! But you have to attend in-person to get in on the goods!

WE WILL BE CHECKING FOR VACCINE CARDS AT THE DOOR FOR THIS EVENT, SO PLEASE BRING THAT AND A MASK.

Don’t forget that we also have plenty of LIVE streaming tickets available at just $5 for folx that cannot travel out, don’t wanna deal with parking, and want to feel safer AND not miss out. You can even host your own watch party with a group of friends, family, or coworkers.
