Position: Government Relations Specialist

About LRP:

Lavender Rights Project provides community support and protection for the Washington State

Black Trans and Non-binary community. We are tasked with finding solutions that will eradicate

violence against Black Trans people, especially Black Trans women and femmes. The solutions

may involve: legal service, direct support to individuals, housing projects, finding alternatives to

policing, state and national anti-violence campaigns, education, and training.

We are looking for an experienced Government Relations Specialist to join our team and help us

to advance the interests of our organization in the political and legislative arenas. The successful

candidate will work with the Policy Director to advocate for our organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Develop and implement strategies to influence legislation and policy at the local,

state, and federal levels

● Analyze proposed legislation and regulations to ensure they are consistent with the

organization’s interests

● Prepare and present testimony before legislative committees

● Develop relationships with key political figures

● Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments

● Prepare lobbying plan

● Prepare reports and recommendations for Policy Director and Executive Director

● Represent the organization in public forums

Requirements and Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, law, or related field

● 3+ years of experience in lobbying or government relations preferred

● Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process in WA State.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills

● Excellent interpersonal skills

● Able to manage multiple tasks

● Able to work independently with minimal supervision

● Strong problem-solving and creative solution skills

● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google.

● Knowledge of WA state and federal lobbying laws

Location Requirement: This in-person position will require you to travel regularly within the

Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area.

Compensation: This is a six-month contract position for the 2025 Washington State Legislative

session. This position is expected to commence in November 2024. Compensation will be

$45,000 for the six-month period.
