And just like that… 2023 is coming to a close — A reflection from Angel Patterson

Dearest community,
And just like that, 2023 is quickly coming to a close and so is another monumental chapter in LRP herstory. Who could have imagined all of the things we achieved as a community? I could. I am lucky enough to be in a position where I am continuously reassured by the impact our work is having on Black and gender diverse communities, and inspired by the outpouring of love constantly returned to us. Between our staff and all of our friends, family, and accomplices, right now I am feeling incredibly grateful for what we are building and thankful that so many of you have taken root with us already.
This winter, a time when many of us slow down to reflect on the past and plan for the future, I invite you to be rooted in the present with me. Find your ground in knowing that you are a part of a movement that is building a safer world for those who are the most impacted. Take comfort in knowing that we are all doing our best to take care of each other and ourselves. Take pride in knowing that our fight for housing justice, economic justice, and ending gender based violence are the reason that so many folks are protected from the systems that seek to harm them.
However cliche it might be, the present is my gift for our LRP family. Right now, we are a community dedicated to uplifting and advocating for the voices of the most marginalized. Right now, we are strong and united, holding our past to guide us into our next chapter. Right now, we are together, rooted in our mission to liberate Black trans community—not just in Washington State, but throughout the USA.
So let’s keep the momentum going. And as always, there’s still time to give to Black trans advocacy. Learn more about how you can get involved at bit.ly/givetolrp.
