Call for Black Trans Artist Activists!
by Mahkyra Gaines (they/them)
Community Engagement Manager
Lavender Rights Project's Advocacy Team invites artists to collaborate on a community-based project that will provide public education and generate conversations on the impacts that carceral systems have on Black Trans Community. We welcome Black Trans folks with lived carceral experience(s) to apply.
The artist(s) will contribute work reflecting on the incarceration experience and its impact through a racial and gender analysis. Artwork is not limited to a specific medium, but we do ask that it be accessible to a broad range of audiences. Our intentions are to shed light on how impacted Black Trans communities view systemic injustices, carceral wounds, and its consequences and visions on what a society without prisons, jails, and detention centers can be. We fully acknowledge the sensitives around this work and highly encourage artists to tell their truth, their story, and from their own definition.Storytelling and crafting is both emotional and physical labor, especially under this subject matter, we will be compensating artists with a $450 stipend and can supply art supplies if needed.
