Call for legal support: (253) 325-1416

Lavender Rights Project proudly offers FREE affirming, supportive legal services for Black and Indigenous communities in Washington State, with a focus on uplifting Black trans women and femmes.

Our new legal services include free direct representation, consultations, and legal clinics for issues related to criminal law and more.

Our Programs

Free Legal Advice Consultations — Black and indigenous community members can call us with any legal issue, and our team is here to support you. We can offer free legal advice when it is possible, as well as potential referrals to other supportive legal organizations. Our team prioritize Black trans femmes and criminal law related legal needs.

Criminal Law Legal System Support — We offer free representation for criminal law cases across Washington state, including all misdemeanor and Class C and B felony trial cases, expungements, review hearings, arrest support, and more.

Issue-Based Legal Clinics — Beginning Fall 2023, we will be hosting regular legal clinics on urgent issues facing Black & indigenous trans communities. There will be food, community building, workshops, and a chance to connect with attorneys who are experts in their field. It’s a different model designed to empower our communities. Our first clinics will be focused on arrest support and warrant quashing, and there will be a virtual/zoom option for those who can’t attend in-person.

How To Request Legal Support

The first step receiving legal services is by filling out an intake form. There are two ways to do this. You can fill out the form on-line by simply clicking here, or you may contact our paralegals on the phone at 253-325-1416. If you are experiencing an active arrest situation, please email our lead attorney at nico@lavenderrightsproject.org in order to receive urgent support.

Our Values

Our all-BIPOC trans legal team is now accepting new clients and committed to:

Client-centered decision making
Collective care and mutual aid
Community based lawyering
Self-determination
Political education
Black Trans Femme liberation

We believe legal systems are fundamentally racist and designed to incarcerate and discriminate against Black communities. Our goal is to disrupt this harm through fierce legal advocacy and affirming, supportive services every step of the way in the legal process.
