A Letter From Our Executive Director
Dear Friends,
Lavender Rights Project is here for you in this trying time, many of us are struggling between Covid-19 and the disappointing right-wing ideology that is taking over US politics, including in the highest court in the land. Especially now, our staff find hope in the work we do for our community; queer and trans legal advocacy and education. We find hope in the continuing insurrection against state violence against Black bodies. We will continue to center BIPOC persons in our services, especially Black Trans Women of Color who are facing an epidemic of violence against them.
Covid-19 has resulted in an increase of civil rights violations, disproportionate employment discrimination, a rise in family legal needs, and a lack of access to funds to fight the institutions that harm us. Your contribution of time, money, referrals, and support have been critical to our work. It is abundantly clear to us that to continue to fight for Queer and Trans Washingtonians, we need you.
As the new Executive Director of Lavender Rights Project, I personally find hope in the dedicated staff in our organization. Mostly Black, mostly queer and trans persons working through the difficulties of this moment to serve our clients. They inspire me. Before my employment with LRP, I, like many of you were encouraged by the work of Lavender Rights Project. As a former client, they were there for me when I felt I had no one to stand up for me or to fight for me. Know that we are here to stand up and to fight for you, as the challenges grow, we also intend to grow to meet them. Please stay in touch.
Warmly,
Jaelynn Scott, M.Div.
Executive Director
